Job Title: Covid Specimen Specialist Department: Laboratory Reports to: General Supervisor | FLSA Status: | [ ] Exempt[X] Non-Exempt | [ ] Contract | Position Purpose | Collects and processes specimens for the Covid-19 pandemic. To aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Performs clerical duties including registration, collection and review of billing information, data entry, ordering tests, diagnosis entry, retrieval, and distribution of results. Maintains records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements | Position Qualifications | Education:- High School graduate or equivalent AND documentation of training at the present facility for testing performed.
- Phlebotomy certificate preferred
Other:- Strong interpersonal and organization skills required.
- Valid Driver’s License.
| Experience:Prefer Medical experience but not required | Responsibilities:Covid Swabber Specific Responsibilities: - Perform Nasal Swabs.
- Perform data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner
- Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis.
- Maintain patient and specimen information logs
- Provide superior customer service to all patients
- Clerical duties as necessary
- Travel to additional sites when needed
- Must be able to rotate through all areas of department as required including, specimen receiving, front desk, accessioning, and specimen processing (spin/aliquot).
- Demonstrates ability to establish good working relationships with a variety of professional, technical and nontechnical staff required.
- Good overall health, able to stand for extended periods of time and lift 50 lbs.
- Willing, if needed, to be tested for Covid-19
- Comfortable wearing personal protective equipment (PPE-N95 mask, gloves, gowns, goggles or face-shield, etc.) for 2-hour intervals.
- Performs Curbside/Carside collections in a types of weather conditions.
Responsibilities include general laboratory and Testing Personnel duties as listed below: - Follows the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results in a legible, precise and timely manner.
- Must have good communication skills and strong attention to detail.
- Answers phones, fax results, distributes reports and communicates with physicians, nurses, visitors, and laboratory and hospital personnel in a cooperative, courteous, and appropriate manner with minimal waiting time.
- Understands patient care and laboratory priorities and independently assists others to ensure efficient flow.
- Checks requests for complete, proper, and accurate information.
- Recognizes problems and consults with Supervisor, Lead, Technologist or Technician when unclear or unusual requests are received, sample received is either inappropriate for testing or otherwise compromised, abnormal circumstances with equipment, machinery, or other problems that may exist in a prompt manner.
- Monitors worksheets and outstanding lists.
- Keeps area of laboratory stocked.
- Complies with laboratory and hospital policies, including taking and documenting corrective actions, whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
- Exercises good judgment in recognizing and correcting irregularities and or/ unusual requests.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or test result reporting and correcting the problem or notifying the appropriate supervisor.
- Completes assignments with accuracy and in a timely manner without compromising the quality of the patient sample.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient related information at all times.
- Follows all departmental policies regarding attendance, punctuality, health, and safety.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties or special projects as assigned.
