JOB SUMMARY:
The Staff Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame; care is provided through use of self, the nursing process, environment instrumentation and other health care team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education: 
Graduate of accredited school of nursing.  Current R.N. License in the State of Illinois.

Training:  
Employee with necessary education will be expected to exhibit reasonable proficiency within six months.

Experience:  None

Job Knowledge:

• Knowledge of nursing process for area to which assigned;
• knowledge of hospital and unit policies/procedures, techniques, equipment, legal parameters, CPR certification. 
• Safety and infection control protocols for patient, visitors and self. 
• Able to care for all age patients at competency level (100%).

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Responsibility For:  
Performing nursing process-assess, plan, implement, evaluate.  Direct others in patient care; decision maker; education of patients/family; technical skill; safety.  Inservice education attendance as described in manual on unit.

Physical Demands: 
Lifts weight over 50lbs, as with moving and lifting patients and equipment; prolonged walking and standing; visual and auditory acuity; manual dexterity.

Special Demands: 
Ability to work cooperatively and independently, to work efficiently under stress. To promote a positive public image of the nursing unit and HMC.
